Woodford Mansion is one of the Schuylkill River Villas that predate the American War of Independence. The story of this historic house is filled with the intrigue of a new nation breaking ties to the monarchy encamped in Philadelphia. Later, the building served as a traffic court and prison until restoration in 1930. Completed in 1758, the cottage was built in the Georgian architectural style with a classic pedimented portico, Doric columns and Flemish Bond brickwork. Over 1000 pieces of furniture and Colonial artifacts on display were donated to the city of Philadelphia.
